Come summer, just about everyone flocks to the beach. But it doesn’t mean that there aren’t some great places to stay that are still close enough to the coast, but also provide for moments of complete and utter bliss and relaxation away from the crowds. My Cyprus Insider has handpicked a few gorgeous agrotourism retreats that dreams are made of. The choice…is yours!
1.Palatakia Village Houses, Kato Drys, Larnaca district
A relatively new kid on the block (or more correctly, in the village!) this gorgeous sanctuary oozes the chic kind of charm that will leave you wide eyed, catering to the needs of even the most discerning guest. A boutique agrotourism complex of restored traditional houses in the quaint and beautifully kept Kato Drys village, the beach is just a 20-minute drive away, while the rugged countryside cocoons the village houses in the most magnificent fashion.
The four rural houses that make up the Palatakia Village date back 300 years, transformed into rooms and studios by talented and creative duo, Henri and Alexandra, fuelled by a passion for traditional architecture and local history. And their attention to detail can hardly go unnoticed with beautiful lighting around the complex, artwork by local artists adorning the walls of each room, and contemporary furniture adding a really modern touch.
As old and new fuses in the most fabulous fashion, traditional stone exteriors make way to streamlined modern and chic interiors, that are both simple and yet still warm and welcoming. And for the quality and standard of accommodation that you get, it’s worth mentioning that the prices are pretty good too!

2.Leonidas Village Houses, Goudi, Paphos district
For many locals and foreigners alike, nothing beats some time out on the west of the island, home to some of the greenest areas you’ll find, with mountains cradling the deep blue seas of the Med. And if you’re looking for somewhere relaxing to put your feet up for a night (or two!), then Leonidas Village Houses should be right up your street!
Situated in the village of Goudi, just a short drive from Paphos and close to the gorgeous Akamas Peninsula and little towns of Polis Chrysohous and Latchi, these village houses are centred around a welcoming pool, with 5 individual traditional houses sharing a common yard, garden and swimming pool with panoramic views out to the village valley.
Built back in the 19th century, the houses have been renovated with their traditional features intact, with the interior and fully restored vintage furniture reflecting the traditional style of bygone days.

3. Modus Vivendi traditional houses, Psematismenos, Larnaca district
So idyllic and secluded are these little houses and studios that many don’t have any idea that they exist. But those who have been here before are quick to sing its praises, with the whole place made to feel like a home away from home; a rather perfect home that is!
Eclectic, rustic and rather beautiful, step inside one of the six listed traditional stone built houses and studios – all decorated in various colour schemes and named accordingly – and you’ll be greeted by heirloom furniture combined alongside simple contemporary design. As good taste and hospitality combines, each house/studio boasts its own fully equipped kitchenette.
Design elements are everywhere at Modus Vivendi, from the specially designed table lamps to paintings by local artists. The original antiques are rather special too. But most of all, the place has a really comfy and incredibly warm feel to it…so we can only warn that you may not wish to leave once you get there! And let’s not forget the lovely courtyard that many feel is the real star of the show, filled with local aromatic herbs and plants rather gracefully reaching up for the skies around a central swimming pool, offset by glorious pink bougainvillea commanding attention. If you do fancy venturing out into the great outdoors, the beach is a short drive from the accommodation!

A complex of three cottages in Apsiou Village, they may be called ‘Blue Cottages’ but in actual fact, you can choose from the Blue Cottage, the Anerada Cottage and the Eleni Studio. With Blue and Anerada Cottage standing as two bedroom houses, Anerada is situated at the very edge of the village and commands terrific views of the surrounding countryside in a wonderfully peaceful environment, while Blue is a restored two-bedroom house in ‘Pano Apsiou’ in the foothills of the Kakomallis forest.
As for the Eleni Studio, it’s cute and cosy, providing you with pretty much everything you need during your stay. All interiors of the three stone built houses are a real mix of modern and traditional, with Anerada boasting a particularly enticing outdoor space with gorgeous mountain views.

If you’re looking for somewhere close to Larnaca, but fancy setting up base in a village house, then this has got to be it! A lovely renovated old house in the village of Athienou, Archontiko tis Anastasias is an old mansion that was built in 1860, calling out to all visitors with its brilliant vibrant blue door that opens up onto a lovely courtyard for moments of pure respite and relaxation.
