6.  Take in the Akamas splendour

If there’s ever a great time to visit the Akamas penisula, it’s now! The thing that dreams are made of, it’s as equally wild as it is beautiful, defiantly jutting out into the deep blue Mediterranean waters in all its unspoilt glory. And the abundant flora and fauna are testament to the wonder of the area, with about 530 indigenous plants, of which 35 are endemic. Visit the place during the spring and it’s quite literally brimming with plant life in all its colourful glory. Read more here.

7.  Hit the beach while it’s still quiet

If you really want to make the most of the waves lapping against the shore, sans the chatter of crowds or the background noise of water sports, there’s no better time to hit the beach than the springtime. You may not quite be ready to make a defiant splash into the still rather chilly waters, but you can certainly dip your toes in and make the most of reading your book under the blue skies, enjoying a seaside snooze, or simply, looking out at the endless blue with hardly anyone around to crowd the view. Absolute bliss! Want some beachy ideas? Read about some of the best here.

8. Drive through the glorious wine routes

Hit the road and abandon the flutter of city life, as you make your way through quaint areas that rise high above the flat coastline, with vines crawling up towards the towering Troodos Mountains. When it comes to choosing a winery to visit, you’ll be really spoilt for choice with small boutique wineries having popped up all around the countryside in recent years. Read more here.

9.  Grab the binoculars for a spot of birdwatching

Cyprus is a great place for birdwatching, particularly great in spring, standing as one of the first countries in Europe to welcome spring migrants each year. According to BirdLife Cyprus, Swallows and Swifts are the most famous spring visitors to our island, flying towards the sun kissed shores from early February. Then there’s the Bee-eaters that arrive in large numbers later in spring, with a few Storks and Cuckoos passing by in smaller numbers. 10. Rejoice in the Agros Rose Festival

Situated on the slopes of the Troodos Mountains in the heart of the Pitsillia region, the month of May sees the village of Agros come to life with festivities that pay homage to the mighty rose that villagers use to produce rose oil, rosewater, liqueur and brandy. Between May 12th and 14th and May 20th and 21th, you have the chance to visit local workshops and learn all about the distillation of roses. They’ll also be a rose exhibition, traditional products to buy, and folk dancing with lots of music. What’s more, it’s all free for the public to enjoy.
