Hope you’ve had a wonderful week and are managing to survive the current heat wave! We have to admit that the team here at My Cyprus Insider have been quite relieved to be hiding away in the AC for the most part of the day, only venturing out into the city in the late afternoon when the temperature becomes somewhat bearable again! But that doesn’t mean that there aren’t plenty of ways of enjoying the great outdoors while keeping cool this weekend!
If you’d like to venture out in the evening, those of you heading to the east coast for a weekend in Ayia Napa or Protaras, may be interested in stopping off for a refreshing break at the 11th Watermelon Festival taking place in the village of Frenaros. The festival will kick off just as the sun goes down at 8.15pm, with a dancing and rhythmic gymnastics show, followed by live music and an award ceremony for the biggest watermelon.
As the musical show continues, you’ll get to enjoy a watermelon cultivation and variety competition while you’ll also get the chance to tuck into all sorts of cool watermelon delights, watermelon ice cream and a watermelon juice.
Speaking of all things cool and refreshing, if you really want to escape the heat this weekend, you may want to skip the beach and head for one of the island’s cascading waterfalls up in the highest heights of Troodos. Read more here.
And if you are heading up towards Troodos and fancy a bit of a detour, then drive towards the gorgeous Marathassa Valley and walk down paths less explored to discover the magnificent Kykkos watermill crossing over the gurgling Setrachos River.
Have a great weekend Insiders, however you choose to spend it!
Bye for now, Zoe
