With the countdown to Xmas in full swing, the young ones are no doubt getting super excited about what Santa will be bringing them this year. But Xmas isn’t just about getting the kids the right prezzies, it’s also about managing to keep them highly entertained throughout the holiday period! My Cyprus Insider is on hand with a few great ideas that should put a wide smile on their faces.


1. Christmas Fairyland, Nicosia

You can’t miss the Christmas Fairyland, with a brightly lit Ferris wheel calling out to greet you the moment you enter Nicosia. Let the fun times roll with all sorts of fairground attractions and games to keep the young ones busy, while evenings include concerts by popular singers and bands from Cyprus and Greece. Pop by with the children for a little afternoon fun, and stay on until the evening to watch the whole place really come to life.

2. Santa Claus, Mall of Cyprus, Nicosia

Have you heard about Santa flying in all the way from Lapland to bring heaps of cheer to the Mall of Cyprus? Head down to the mall with the young ones to enjoy a spot of shopping between December 27th and December 30th and the kids can enjoy having their photo taken with Santa by a professional photographer. Best of all, it’s free of charge! Keep in mind that there will be a whole host of other Xmas events taking place at the mall which you can read about here.



Where and when? Mall of Cyprus, Nicosia. Dec 27th to 30th.


3. Christmas Village, Pavilion, Nicosia

Take the young ones down to Pavilion between December 15th and 17th and the whole family can enjoy heaps of festive magic. With traditional wooden houses to be set up throughout the venue, you can expect plenty of sweet treats, hot drinks, music, and children’s entertainment (including picture taking with Santa, music, theatre and dancing).



Where and when? Pavilion, Lakatamia, Nicosia. Entrance: free for children under 12 years of age. 3 euro for adults- part of the net revenue will be given to the “One Dream, One Wish” association.


4. A Christmas Carol, Theatro Ena, Nicosia

What’s Christmas without Charles Dicken’s famous Christmas Carol? Head down to Theatro Ena with the young ones to watch a play based on this classic novel which tells the tale of Ebenezer Scrooge, an old miser is visited by the ghost of his former business partner, Jacob Marley, and the ‘Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Yet to Come’. This play has been adapted and directed by Andreas Christodoulides.

5. Epidrasi Christmas Village 2017, Eleftheria Square, Limassol

Another Christmas village, this one will be lighting up the seaside town of Limassol for a three-day event where kids can enjoy a carousel ride, face painting and lots of other fun activities. Net proceeds from the event will go to individuals in the Episkopi community with movement disabilities who are in urgent need of treatment.



Where and when? Eleftheria Square. December 8-10. Friday: 5pm-8pm. Saturday: 11am-8pm.


6. Christmas Wonderland, Old Limassol Port

With the Old Limassol Port forming a hub of activity this Xmas, the young ones will love all the rides and games with carousel, train and horse carriage rides in the mix. Then there are bumper cars to enjoy and plenty of ‘North Pole’ snow games, as well as Santa’s Grotto. And as the young ones let off some steam, the adults can enjoy chocolate and sweet workshops, as well as street food, mulled wine and hot chocolate!



Where and when? Old Limassol Port. Until December 24th. Free entrance. Rides – activities from 1 euro. Monday – Friday 6pm- 10pm. Saturday and Sunday 11 am – 10 pm. Christmas Day & New Year’s Day 4 pm – 10 pm. 26/12/17 – 07/01/18 everyday 11am- 10pm.


7. Christmas Village, Limassol Municipal Gardens

Yet another Xmas ‘village’ in Limassol, this one will boast seasonal delicacies, a carousel, and plenty of other entertainment including choirs singing all your favourite Xmas carols.



Where and when? Limassol Municipal Gardens.  Until January 7th. Free.


8. Santa’s Workshop, Trakasol Cultural Centre, Limassol

For two days this December. the little ones can enjoy a magical land with Santa, elves, face painting fairies, fairy tales, Xmas carols and dancing, as they get creative with a variety of arts and crafts. They’ll love making their own Christmas decorations with wood, polystyrene, paper and dough, while they will also be able to decorate their Christmas cookies, make pottery decorations and take photos with Santa and his sleigh!



Where and when? Trakasol Cultural Centre, Limassol. December 16th – 17th. 11am – 7pm. Entrance is free but children wishing to partake in the workshop: 15 euro per child.


9. Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Larnaca Municipal Theatre

The classic Grimm Brothers’ masterpiece is about to come to life on stage this festive season, enchanting both children and adults. Expect a production full of colours, splendid music, beautiful sets and magical costumes from days gone by. The play is an adaptation by actor and screenwriter, Yiannis Spanos.

10. Christmas Parade, downtown Larnaca

Bound to excite the young ones no end, Santa will be parading around Larnaca town centre on December 16th, escorting dance groups from Larnaca ballet schools. Santa and his young entourage will be marching from John Kennedy (Akropolis) Square, down Ermou Str., Zenonos Kitieos Str., Zenonos Pierides Str., Lord Byron Str., Galilaiou Str., Ermou Str., and onto Ermou Square.



Where and when? Larnaca Town Centre. December 16th. 6pm. Free.


11. Christmas Street Fair, Paphos

Expect plenty of festive cheer with a multicultural array of events including music and songs, dance, Christmas delicacies, arts and crafts, storytelling, kids’ cinema, puppet shows and much more!
