More rugged and serene than any other stretch of coast on the island, the west of Cyprus is where you need to be if you want beaches to yourself and sunsets to make your eyes pop. And when you’re looking for a spot to kick back at the end of a sunkissed day, you’re in luck – the My Cyprus Insider team has narrowed down some dreamy places we think you’ll love just as much as we do.

1. Fly Again Irish Pub & Grill, Argaka

The sleepy seaside village of Argaka may be a little off the radar, but locals have done a great job at setting up some very cute and laid-back establishments right by the water’s edge. And this, is one of the main reasons that we love this side of the island so very much. You actually can sit right by the water’s edge with unobstructed views as far as the eye can see, due to the lack of development in the area.

Drive along the scenic Argaka coastline and you’ll spot a bright and colourful beach bar and pub with a seating area right by the sea, going by the name of Fly Again Irish Pub & Grill. Not quite like your typical Irish pub, the outdoor area is something more akin to a Caribbean beach bar, complete with colorful décor, comfy seating, tropical plants and decking areas. Free beach beds are also available. If you’re hungry, you can tuck into food from around the world whilst watching the sunset over the glistening Med.

2. Val’s Place, Gialia

Just a few kilometres away from Argaka, Val’s Place is a gorgeous little family-run café/bar where you can kick back, relax, and let yourselves blissfully enjoy the feeling of overwhelming calm that the area exudes.  Set in a breathtaking location, you can look forward to unobstructed panoramic views of the undulating landscape that makes its way down to the deep blue of the west coast. Little wonder that Val’s Place has fast earned a great reputation, with people from near and far now flocking to this paradisical hang-out in this unspoilt and unkempt region of the wider Paphos district.

If you’d like to listen to some live music, check out the establishments Facebook page before you head here as there are plenty of live events organised. While you’re here, try their homemade lemonade with fresh mint (possibly the best we’ve ever tried), tuck into some of the healthy food on the menu (with vegan and veggie options in the mix) and wash it all down with some fresh mango juice before reaching for the alcohol. Want to stay on? You can even camp here for the night!

3. Grape by the Sea, Kato Pyrgos

If you want to feel like you have arrived at the end of the earth, then Kato Pyrgos is the place for you. And if you’re looking for the best place to have a drink when you get here, Grape by the Sea has to be it. The location of the bar and restaurant is incredibly dreamy, with tables and chairs hidden under a shaded area on a slightly elevated space right by the sea. Sit on a stool by the bar to indulge in a cool cocktail (their mojitos are a big hit) and enjoy the panoramic views across the deep blue, or kick back on a chair and have a bite to eat with sandwiches, salads and more on the menu.

Stay on for sunset and you’ll witness one of the prettiest sights you could possibly wish to see on this part of the island as the sky lights up with pink and crimson hues and the burning orange sun dips behind the glistening Mediterranean sea. Oh, endless Cyprus September summers, we do love you!
