As Christmas fast approaches, nothing beats enjoying a spot of shopping at a local market or Xmas event filled with colourful stalls! Here’s the My Cyprus Insider lowdown on some of the best Christmas extravaganzas to look forward to this festive season!

 

1. Larnaca Traditional Christmas Market 2018

A market that first made an appearance 7 years ago is returning for yet another year running and crowds from Larnaca and beyond are preparing to make some prize festive purchases.  Open from Friday November 30th until Saturday December 1st, the Larnaca Christmas Market will give crowds the chance to browse over 130 stalls, selling just about everything Christmas related, from food to decorations, and everyone’s holiday favourite: mulled wine! And because no Christmas Market is complete without the sound of festive music, the ‘Angelic Voices’ choir will keep you company with Christmas carols galore.

 

 

Where and when? Forest Beach, Dhekelia road, Larnaca.  November 30 – December 1. Children free, adults €1.

2. German Christmas Fayre, Nicosia 

Want to be whisked away to central Europe for that real traditional Christmassy feel for a few hours? Look no further than the German Christmas Fayre, a traditional German Christmas market brought to you by the Cyprus-German Cultural Association, with the support of the Goethe-Institut Zypern and Chateau Status.  Taking place for one day on Sunday December 2nd, you’ll get to indulge in all sorts of German treats like Lebkuchen (a baked treat that resembles gingerbread), stolen (a bread baked with nuts, spices and dried fruit), tasty waffles, roast nuts, mulled wine and more.

 

 

Walk around the area and you’ll also be able to get hold of great handicrafts, traditional handmade ornaments and more. Accompanied by live music performance, visitors will also enjoy German sausages, tasty waffles, a wide variety of German beer and many other delicacies. What’s more, young visitors will get to prepare Christmas ornaments and other wooden creations!

3. Christmas Market 2018 at Aphrodite Hills, Paphos

If you’re looking for a Christmas market in the Paphos district, just head for the lovely Aphrodite Hills and celebrate Christmas in a two-day event that includes a traditional market and many other Christmas activities. Celebrations begin on Saturday December 1st and will continue through to Saturday December 2nd.  With plenty of stalls selling Christmas decorations and treats, the Aphrodite Hills Christmas market will include a tree lighting ceremony, stilt walkers, face painting, pony rides and live DJ performances, while Santa entertains the young ones!

4. Limassol Christmas Land

It really isn’t Christmas in Limassol without Limassol Christmas Land! Opening its doors on November 30th and remaining open until January, the event will bring the Enaerios area in downtown Limassol to life once again. With numerous stalls selling themed decorations and festive treats, Christmas Land is much more than just a market, but a whole amusement park, which will also see numerous live performances bring the place to life with the holiday lineup including a performance by Eleni Foureira, Cyprus representative at the 2018 Eurovision contest!
