It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to create the perfect winter getaway. But it does take some sound knowledge of interior design, and great awareness of what guests are after, in order to get it just right. And we’re certainly a rather discerning lot here at My Cyprus Insider, always checking the little details to ensure that our expectation are met, and even, superseded. Here are some of our favourite houses where you can cosy up in style, all boasting a splash of fiery festive red and tons of comfy details to guarantee that your holidays as fabulous as possible.
1. Modus Vivendi, Red House
You may be inclined to immediately think of the mountains when you want to plan your Xmas holidays, but don’t dismiss other rural spots for an alternative countryside break. We love the delightfully rustic Modus Vivendi in Psematismenos (pictured in cover photo); a gorgeous complex of traditional stonebuilt houses and studios, each one of them eclectic, rustic and beautiful in their own right, decorated in various styles and colour schemes.
For a really cosy stay, book a night in the Red House, with a middle eastern-inspired country living room, also boasting wooden beams running across the ceiling. A deep red on the bedroom walls combines with a turquoise bed for a complete Venetian, Ottoman, Cypriot atmosphere. And when you want to sink into the deepest relaxation, just step into the dreamy bathroom, complete with a sunken bathtub. In the living/dining area, there is a small kitchenette, as well as a sofa bed that can be used as a single bed.
2. Vasiliou House, Krimenos
Just like its namesake sister property, you can’t beat the gorgeous panoramic mountain views at this place, perfectly tucked away in the Troodos Mountain village of Chandria, with a spacious balcony to take in the undulating landscape during the daytime.
The perfect place to relax and escape from it all, Vasiliou House Krimenos (literally meaning ‘hidden’) is the ultimate tranquil getaway for friends and family, with three bedrooms and a spacious open plan living room – complete with a modern stove fireplace – and fully equipped kitchen area. And when you’re itching to head out and about, cosmopolitan Limassol is just 50 km away while the popular mountain village of Kakopetria is just 16 km from the property.
3. Sterna House, Apokryfo
Hands down one of the most beautiful rustic boutique hotels on the island, it’s hard to find a single spot within Apokryfo that doesn’t deserve to be photographed! Little wonder, given that the whole place – situated in the Limassol winegrowing village of Lofou – has been created by an architect and interior designer couple.
If you’re looking for the ultimate cosy and romantic retreat with your other half this winter, the hotel’s Sterna House is about as cute as it gets; a one-bedroom cottage with an open fireplace a wonderfully colourful sitting room boasting two large sofas, a large kitchenette, open fireplace, private courtyard and a west-facing balcony overlooking the village. The seductive bedroom complete with a four-poster bed is on a raised level with an en suite bathroom, while living room divans can be turned into single beds for the night.
