As the summer heat intensifies, we’ve all been a little lazier in the kitchen, looking for quick refreshing bites and recipes that don’t require much effort. Out with the heavy meals, in with the light options and tasty treats! And we’ve thoroughly enjoyed having Tonia Buxton on board as our June guest blogger in our all new ‘Flavours of Cyprus’ section, inspiring us with her great summer recipes.

With the start of a new month, we’re now excited to have joined forces with the talented Alpha Chef team who will soon be taking us on a unique one-month culinary journey with recipes that make use of delicious local ingredients in fantastic new ways. Forget spending hours in the kitchen; their recipes are quick, fun and easy to make.

What’s more, they present a brilliant twist on tradition, with innovative ideas to really encourage you to experiment, from delicious gazpacho with halloumi ice cream, to pancakes with yogurt and pastelaki (nut brittle), orzo with mussels, and much more. The recipes will be published on My Cyprus Insider each week throughout July.




The Alpha Chef team are a group of young talented chefs who first became known in Alphamega Hypermarkets’ Alpha Chef’ game show; namely Stelios Loizou, Nicolas Constantinou, Aris Stylianou, Paschalis Paschali and Pavlos Kolotas. Following the game show, the team then enjoyed sharing their recipes in the Alpha Chef magazine filled with their own unique recipes that were loved by foodies and gastronomes island wide.




The team have now gone on to bring us a taste of the island’s inspiring gastronomy, colourful history and tradition in a whole new way in a contemporary publication named Alpha Gastronomy: Creating from our Tradition, a luxury hardback with a focus on New Cypriot Gastronomy. Compiled under the guidance of author and historian, Kimonas Georgiou, the book is inspired by local cuisine using an innovative combination of ingredients.




Far more than just an average cook book, each chef presents his own degustation menu, with tantalising bites coming to life through inspiring photographic imagery. And if you’d like to know more about the world of New Cypriot Gastronomy, the book takes you on an inspirational journey with a dedicated chapter on the tastes and flavours that are an intrinsic part of our history, while also shaping the future of the island’s colourful gastronomy.

The book is now available (in Greek) at all ALPHAMEGA hypermarkets island wide. It will also be available in English in the near future.
