With views out to the gorgeous aquamarine seas of Makronissos Beach in Ayia Napa, the new Koralli Seafood Restaurant within the grounds of the Asterias Beach Hotel has opened up to tantalise lovers of seafood with quality dishes drawing on the island’s tradition, infused with a great gourmet touch.
With modern and chic decor, and the shimmering Med providing the perfect restaurant backdrop, Koralli Seafood Restaurant largely draws on the creativity and imaginative flair of executive chef, Dimitris Alexandrou, and his team, coupled with the long history and excellent reputation of the Asterias Beach Hotel.
“We wanted to offer our hotel guests – and the guests of the surrounding area – an option for high quality food with friendly and authentic service,” says Fotos Hadjisoteriou, the hotel’s F&B Manager. “We pay great attention to the raw ingredients in our kitchen in order to serve fish that’s as fresh as can be, while the vegetables are all locally sourced from small Cyprus producers, and the herbs used in our dishes are all grown by us here on the hotel grounds.”
We here at My Cyprus Insider really love the fact that Koralli doesn’t just stick to all the typical meze dishes, but adds an unusual flair to starters and mains that you won’t find in many of the island’s fish restaurants. The dips, to start with, are rather dreamy; especially the hummus with avocado. We are also impressed by the fact that sardines are featured on the menu in creative fashion – a rarity in most local fish taverns – dished up to whet the appetite with marinated peppers.
Other great appetisers include the prawns and langoustines croquettes with fresh dill (served with a moreish tomato marmalade), as well as the octopus carpaccio served with arugula salad and roasted pine nuts, with lemon-olive oil dressing and caponata sauce. The list of starters to tantalise your taste buds is practically endless, with other delicacies including crispy baby calamari, prawns saganaki, steamed mussels, crab cakes, zucchini balls with a tzanziki dip and more. And there are plenty of fresh salads to enjoy on the side; we went for the wild rocket salad with arugula, sundried tomatoes, roasted pine nuts, dried figs and pomegranate and parmesan flakes, served with balsamic vinegar and honey mustard.
The mains on offer are equally tempting, with one of the specials, baked and then grilled octopus with Mediterranean herbs served with carrot puree and vegetables, going down a treat. The steamed seabass is also impressive; two steamed fillets of fresh seabass baked inside vine leaves and flavoured with Mediterranean herbs. And if you’re a pasta lover, there are some great options for you to indulge in, like the lobster and king crab tortellini or the tagliatelle with seafood, served with various shellfish and prawns and a light lobster sauce. If you’re dining with a big group of family or friends, you may like to feast on a fish platter served with freshly fried potatoes or rice. And for a sweet treat to wash it all down, we would highly recommend the strawberry pavlova or delicious orange cake, among other treats!
Whether you head here for lunch or dinner, the really great thing about this restaurant is that you can wash down your meal with a delicious cocktail at the adjacent chic and welcoming Levels Beach Bar that opened up on the hotel grounds last year. By day, you can kick back under the shade of gorgeous gazebos on the golden sands, while both day and night gives you the chance to sip on a refreshing drink by the bar or at a table on the wooding decking. That’s not to forget the low tables and cushy bean bag chairs right on the sand for the ultimate chill out experience.
The summer menu includes some great thirst quenching cocktails, with a tempting list that’s hard to choose from! We went for something light and enjoyed the ‘Summer Fresh’ made with Russian standard vodka, Passoa liquer, strawberry puree, fresh passion fruit, apple juice and a lime wedge. Then there’s the delicious frozen mango daiquiri, the raspberry mint lemonade and many more satiating options. All this, with chill out music in the background as the waves lap up against the golden shores!
