Think that Larnaca is all about beachside cafes and a busy palm tree-lined promenade? Think again. Not only is the town fast becoming a hip hub for boutique hotels and creative outlets, but the surrounding countryside is also worth writing home about.

And if you love to make new discoveries on two wheels, then you’ll be pleased to know that the Larnaca Tourism Board have just revised and digitalized a fabulous group of thematic cycling routes.

With eight different thematic routes to choose from, you’ll be breathing in the fresh air, riding through challenging, varied and picturesque terrain, and you’ll also have the chance to spot pretty villages and famous religious and historic sites along the way. Click on each route for more information and to access the maps here.

There’s a ‘Neolithic Route’ taking you past the ancient settlements of Choirokitia and Kalavasos, a ‘Wine and Gastronomy Route’ taking you through the area’s wine-producing region and villages, a ‘Multi-religious Route’ which will take you past various places of worship in Larnaca and many more. For animal lovers, there’s even a ‘Camels and Donkeys Route’ which leads to the Mazotos Camel Park and Skarinou Golden Donkeys Farm! And for something really unusual, head down the ‘Wheat Fields and Bread-Making Route’, taking you through (you guessed it) wheat fields, a traditional flour mill in Athienou, and the Kallinikeio Museum of Athienou.
