So you’re spending the weekend in the city, but you still feel like you need a nice break from the routine? We have found the perfect spots where you can disappear for a few hours as you immerse yourselves in some true olde worlde vibes!
1. Kafenio 11, Old Nicosia
Located in one of the loveliest parts of old Nicosia, right beside the famous hamam, this pretty spot is well known for its colourful traditionally Cypriot style courtyard – filled with terracotta plant pots and overflowing bougainvillaea – where professional musicians often gather in the evening with a bouzouki in hand to play traditional Greek rebetika. During the day, the plant-filled courtyard of Kafenio 11 is the ideal spot for a morning frappe or strong Cypriot coffee.
In the colder winter months, you can make the most of the cosy interior, and warm up your insides with some traditional Zivania, accompanied by an indulgent cheese platter.
Where? Corner of Soutsou and Pireos St, Old Nicosia. Tel: (+357) 99 030985
2. Mallon Glikis Traditional Coffee Shop
Located in the bustling Saripolou area of Limassol, Mallon Glikis serves as a perfect haven for a spot of slightly less hectic people-watching while enjoying a refreshing frappe and a game of tavli with friends. The café has been decked out in a great balance of hip contemporary minimalism, with plenty of traditional Cypriot décor in the mix.
The wooden tables and chairs wouldn’t be amiss in an old-man kafeneio, but with trendy cocktails and elaborate brunch on the menu, this little spot is taking the kafeneio concept into the present day.
Where? Saripolou, Limassol. Tel: (+357) 25-355325

Step inside the retro-style The Vintage Art House Espresso Bar located in a beautifully renovated traditional house from the 50’s, and you’ll be overwhelmed by the aroma of fresh coffee.
Kick back and take in the cosy antique, avant-garde atmosphere and quirky personality. And it’s even better when you’re in the garden – a really special spot to soak up the autumn sunshine!
