Visiting Paphos for the first time and keen on venturing away from your hotel to get better acquainted with local life in the vibrant seaside town? Or do you perhaps live in the area and love the idea of getting to know more about the history and culture of the vicinity?
A new ‘Meet the Locals’ initiative will now give you the chance to enjoy a guided tour of the UNESCO Heritage town, as you take in different aspects of this seaside haven steeped in history and oozing quaint charm. As you put your best foot forward, you’ll be given insight into the history of the town’s neoclassical buildings, the renovated squares, the commercial centre, the fruit market and many other points of interest. What’s really great is that you’ll also get to see the way that the town is being revamped, as old meets new in spectacular fashion.
As you explore, you’ll find out more about how the town developed, from the late Byzantine and Medieval times up until the present day. You’ll also get a feel of the everyday lives of the population as you pass by shopkeepers, restaurant owners and workmen who’ll often call out to greet you.
The tour begins at the ‘Agora’ bus stop, every Thursday at 9.30am and lasts for about 2 and half hours. Taking you through backstreets, side streets and paths less known, the tour ends at the CTO offices on Makarios Avenue where you can enjoy a spot of shopping or simply kick back for a drink and bite to eat.
The new tours are set to last until December 27th, but authorities stipulate that they may continue through until March 2019.
