There are some moments in life when you crave nothing more than a bit of solitude, a place to call your own for a night or two far from hubbub of daily life where very little, aside from the sounds of birds chirping, transcends the silence. And nothing excites us more here at My Cyprus Insider than when we come across new places, each offering a slice of paradise far from the buzz of the city. Curious? Join us on a journey into some great holiday homes where tradition comes to life with a modern twist!
1. Orounta Traditional House
If you’re visiting the island’s capital or live in the city and are looking for a quiet escape without having to travel far, then Orounta Traditional House should be right up your street. Set right on the centre of the peaceful neighbourhood of Orounta, it’s just a 30-minute drive away from Nicosia and gives you the chance to head further afield to explore Kakopetria and other pretty villages near the towering Troodos peaks.
Take the whole family with you, or plan a stay with a group of friends; this place accommodates nine people and there’s a great courtyard where you can enjoy al fresco meals. Want to catch a glimpse of the nearby mountains? Just step out onto your private balcony from your bedroom and take in the splendour of it all.

2. Cyprus villages, ‘Pentakomo’, Tochni
Tradition comes to life in brilliant fashion in Tochni village, and the moment you enter the village you’ll notice that the houses in the village are built with the traditional light-coloured ‘Tochni stone’, while most have been renovated and transformed into beautiful agro-tourism (rural tourism) lodgings. These lodgings are open throughout the year, making Tochni one of the most important agro-tourism destinations in the country.
Cyprus Villages comprises a well organised group of houses and apartments at the highest point of the village, and while the ‘Pentakomo’ house may not be brand new, it has just recently been completely renovated and revamped with loving care, equipped with all modern amenities. When the hunger pangs kick in, head to the Tochni tavern for a Cyprus feast.

And the ‘Thea’ certainly doesn’t disappoint, complete with a gorgeous spa bath and views across the vine covered countryside.
