Lockdown isn’t easy, but we’re lucky that we can head outdoors for exercise — be that a brisk walk or cycle — as long as we are only accompanied by one other person. We give you the lowdown on some of the best wide-open parks where you can rejuvenate the senses and breathe in fresh air!
1. Rizoelia National Forest Park
Those of you who lead busy lives in Larnaca may be inclined to go for a long walk down to the Finikoudes promenade or Piale Pasha walkway. But veer away from your regular route and the glistening seas, and you’ll find a brilliant reason to connect with Mother Nature.
Just a short drive out of town, you’ll come across the Rizoelia National Forest Park, with lovely walking routes to get your heart racing. Simply clear your mind from all recent stress, as you surround yourself with hundreds of native flower and plant varieties.
2. Cape Greco National Park
By the coast and dying to go for a long walk? Try something new by visiting Cape Greco. With a rocky headland that juts out into deep azure waters, this designated National Park – characterized by imposing sea caves – is one of the most famous locations on the island for picture taking, and is probably one of the best spots to take in the gorgeous east coast in all its glory.
And once you get your walking shoes on, you’re likely to be lost for words as you set about exploring what the area has to offer. With various signposted nature trails dissecting the area spanning a total length of 16km, just put your best foot forward!
3. Athalassa National Park
If there’s one green space in the capital that calls out for attention, it has got to be this one. Cocooned by the suburbs of Aglandjia, Strovolos and Latsia, it’s a fantastic place for city dwellers to break up the day-to-day, by taking a long walk through one of its designated routes.
A special dog-walking path means you can also take your beloved pooch along with you for a post-work stroll, and if you love nothing more than a ramble by the water’s edge, keep in mind that part of the park (Agios Georgios) is also home to its very own lake, encircled by a walking path that will give you a little lift and get your heart racing.
4. Polemidia National Forest Park
Limassol is reputed as one of the hippest and happening towns on the island. But now, as we all stay away from crowded places, make your way for the hills and drive just a few kilometers outside Limassol towards the Polemidia National Forest Park where you can take in fabulous sea and city views from above.
