Ah, those gorgeous autumn leaves! Nothing much can beat the sound of them crunching beneath your feet as you breathe in fresh country air. And once these brilliant leaves begin to blanket the Cyprus countryside with their crimson hues, it’s time to get those walking shoes on for a day out in the highest peaks of the island!
Our suggestion? Head towards Troodos and the Platania picnic site, just off the Kakopetria to Troodos road. The cool and shady pine grove near Platania forest station is filled with benches where you can sit down for a bite to eat, while there are also dedicated barbeque areas giving you the chance to enjoy a roaring feast with friends and family.
The great thing is that Platania picnic site boasts a kids’ play area, with plenty to keep them entertained. What many people don’t know, is that Platania is also home to its own campsite, with facilities to ensure comfort and convenience without sacrificing the wilderness factor, including toilets, shower blocks and disabled facilities.
Where? Kakopetria – Troodos road, 6 km from Kakopetria towards Troodos, on the right and left of the road, near Platania forest station.
